AAARGH! National talk like a pirate day this year was Sept. 19 so we decided to celebrate. First, we did some writing about what we would do if we were pirates and had found treasure. Then we took selfies to make ourselves look like pirates.
Also, during the day we listened to several fun stories about pirates.
We voted as a class to work on trying to earn an extra recess with pirate bingo. We earned bingo pieces by following directions and doing the right thing. We got a bingo!
And what pirate day would be complete without a few pirate jokes?
Q: What did the pirate get on his report card?
A: Seven "Seas"!
Q: Why can't a pirate learn the alphabet?
A: They keep getting stuck at "sea"!

Can We Outrun a Dinosaur?
In Science we have been learning about how scientists use fossils to help them figure out animals have changed over time. We learned about how they use fossils of dinosaur bones, fossils of their skin, and fossils of their eggs to determine that dinosaurs probably looked like large reptiles. We also learned that they use fossils of their foot prints to determine how fast they probably moved. We used this evidence to determine if we could outrun a dinosaur. First, we got in partners and measured the length of our legs. That helped determine which dinosaur we would be racing, one that had a similar leg length. Then we measured how far we could run in 8 steps and did the same with the dinosaur footprints. We determined that none of us could outrun the dinosaurs. Science is so fun!
